Out with the invites
Thursday, March 11th, 2010After my dress fitting this morning, I went home and packed up all the invites to bring them to the post office. I walked on over to 9th Ave, passing all the fashiony girls on their way to DVF. I approached a window and asked her to verify that I had the correct postage. She hand cancelled it, and my eyes lit up!
“Can you hand cancel all of them?”
“What? How many do you have?”
“A hundred.”
“No way! Just put them in the slots on the other side of the room.”
I started to ask her if I could do it myself, but she started to walk away. She came back, surprised to see me at the window. “What now?” she asked.
“Can I hand cancel them myself?”
Again, looked at me like I was crazy. Customer service is not always the best in New York. She said something about how they will be hand canceled when they get to the place they are going, but I just shrugged it off. Really, who will notice if they are hand canceled?(And heck if that postal worker cared.)
I fed them into the slots and felt somewhat sad. We spend 2 nights assembling, stuffing, stamping, sealing and stamping again. We watched the Oscars and the September Issue. We had a good little system together. These pretty green envelopes were never ours, we spent 5 hours with them and released them into the world. Bryan texted me back to say, “We are getting the RSVPs back, the best part!” But off they go– it’s like For Real.
The sadness- all the creative planning is pretty much over. It’s all about writing checks, updating spreadsheets, figuring out who sits where and making schedules. Which is totally not true. I’m making a cupcake tower, our place cards, table numbers. Oh, and putting candles in about 100 jars.
